Carbon fibre reinforcement for bridges
Another project from the Slabtec WA team. Slabtec installed BC rods to the top of a Bridge to add load capacity for a new road upgrade project.
BC rods are pultruded carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates with a circular cross-section, designed for strengthening concrete and increasing the load capacity of floor slabs, beams and bridge sections.
BC rods were utilised because they are:
- Non-corroding with very high strength
- Invisible once installed.
- No joints required
- Lightweight and can accept traffic on the strengthened surface
- Require minimal surface preparation or levelling of uneven substrates required
